What Happens at the World Santa Claus Congress?
The World Santa Claus Congress at Bakken includes a Santa parade on the streets of Bakken, Christmas competitions for both Santas and the public, a large Christmas gala show, ‘Honorary Santa of the Year’ and lots of Christmas games and Yuletide fun.
On all three days, the Santas can be found on the streets of Bakken to give the public plenty of opportunity to say hello to Santa.
During the Congress there will also be a sightseeing tour of Copenhagen so that the Santas can experience Wonderful Copenhagen. This tour includes a Christmas parade on Strøget, Copenhagen’s main pedestrian street. And there is also time for Santa’s annual saltwater footbath.
The World Santa Claus Congress has many traditions and one of them is various competitions and activities for the Santas. The Santa World Championships are held on an obstacle course on Bakken.
On the Sunday – the day before World Santa Claus Congress starts – the Danish Santa Claus Guild holds its annual meeting at Julemændenes Tingsted (Santa Claus Thingstead) in Nisseskoven (Pixie Forest) at Bakken. Nisseskoven is one of the few places on earth where it is Christmas all year round. Santa’s house is here, the Christmas tree is always decorated and it is also here that the Santa obstacle course can be found. Santas from abroad who have arrived in Denmark on the Sunday are of course welcome to come and watch this event.
